A Diamondback article features three College of Education students reflecting on how recent changes to the U.S. Department of Education have affected their outlook as future educators.
Declan Kirby, a senior majoring in secondary social studies education and government and politics, shared that these policy shifts have real implications that could impact students, especially those with Individualized Education Plans (IEPs). Despite these concerns, Kirby said the current landscape has only deepened his dedication to teaching.
“Moving forward, I don’t just want to be a teacher. Because our profession is sort of under attack …, we can’t just be teachers anymore. We have to be advocates and activists.â€
